Both of my best friends had babies about 5years ago now and I wanted to make them something special and lasting. I bought two different teddy bear kits online and got to work. My hands remembered sewing from much earlier in my life, taught by my mum and grandma (and later a Textiles A-level) and it felt so natural.
I love doing craft fairs and seeing the animals connect with customers, reeling them in with sly glances and whispered promises of comfort and friendship. We all remember a favourite childhood bear, in my case it was a panda, for my brother it was a stoat! I've heard so many camel stories since they joined the BearTonBorough fold. Seeing them installed in a new home with a forever family and knowing they'll be treasured is the best feeling.
I have recently started making bears with a map foot pad to represent a place special to the customer. I have been focusing on the North East of England; where I live, but I am happy to take commissions and find maps of anywhere in the world.
